The subject in this video volunteered to participate in this activity.
The One Leg Stand is a psychomotor test used to assist in the determination
of whether or not a subject is impaired. This test is part of the battery
of tests known as the Standardized Field Sobriety Tests (SFST) utilized
by police officials.
Impairment can be caused by a number of factors individually or combined
including the consumption of alcohol, other drugs (including marijuana
or prescribed medication) as well as exhaustion. The Drug
Recognition Expert program provides a series of tests that can determine
whether or not a person’s impairment is due to alcohol or other
drug use.
By the way, this student was also “celebrating” the University
of New Hampshire Homecoming. His BAL was .24, although he also claimed
to have had “just a couple of beers.”
